These salt spreaders have a simple, robust construction and a ‘screw auger metering system’ so they are very simple and inexpensive to maintain. . They are available in hoper sizes from 1.3m³ – 7 m³ so can be used with non HGV as well as HGV vehicles. They can be powered by the vehicle Hydraulics, or an auxiliary petrol or diesel engine. They can be used as either demountable or permanently mounted units. All of the ‘Salt 1’ units can be supplied with Tanks for Pre-wetting.

The benefits that accrue from the above features are:-

1. The positive ‘screw auger’ metering system ensures an accurate, consistent spread with all types of salt. This saves salt and thus saves money as well as reducing the damaging effects on the environment. We believe this system to be much more accurate than conventional loaded belt and rear tailgate systems.

2. The driven agitator system above the metering roller breaks up any lumps in the salt so that it is far less likely to block than conventional loaded belt and rear tailgate systems. This means that the spreader can consistently spread the correct amount of salt through out the route regardless of the type of salt being used.

3. This spreader is road speed related to BS1622 (1989) Class A1. Also, when the width of spread is changed the metering system automatically speeds up or slows down in order to maintain the same density of spread over the changed width (This is called width/density compensation). This ensures that the driver is less likely to make an error in the spread rates and so the correct amount is always being spread.

4. The conveying auger can easily be removed by loosening four stainless steel bolts. This means that the conveying system would be much quicker to remove than conventional belts, even if they have a cartridge system.

5. The screw auger would require less maintenance than conventional loaded belt conveyors and, because there is no belt, there is no belt to break.
